Much has been said in these forums about using Priceline.com for hotel rooms; it is worth a reminder that Priceline has perhaps a larger inventory of hotel rooms in Chicago than (nearly?) any other city.
Just after your Comdex visit, I managed to get a deluxe room at the House Of Blues hotel for just $50 a night - this would regularly go for $219. The web sites for this property look pretty cool - anyone have any experience with it?
Again, the place to go for Priceline tips is: http://pub4.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding

On the cheap, there are two Days Inn's in prime locations on the near north and Lincoln Park that are pretty cheap. And there is a $20 coupon on their website.
