what's a good cpm?

i'm in advertising, so while i use the expression alot on a daily basis, it means something quite different than it does to flyertalk.
but what do we mileage junkies look for when booking a ticket? i'm interested in what works for base fares versus status miles and other special bonuses? i'm looking at some travel to hawaii from canada, which always seems to have sale prices in the winter vs the east coast of the us? i'm also interested in trips that are the longer the better, as i'm planning to take less trips, but make sure i max miles when i do fly.

I'm impressed when I can cross the continent for <$250 round trip (with taxes), which works out to 5 cents per status mile.
