First, remember that even jaded cicerones cannot ignore the standard fare for every first-time visitor of any generation: the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the dinosaur halls and new planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History and obligatory seasonal forays to places like the toy paradise at F.A.O. Schwarz; Rockefeller Center, with its majestic Christmas tree; and Fifth Avenue, with its glittering Christmas showcase store windows.
