Would day rooms be rentable?

The only thing I can think of to do at LAX to make sitting in that terminal bearable would be to drink. But then again... I am Canadian and we have a reputation for doing that

Aside from a hotel, I'd grab a cab and head over to the Marina del Rey area. It's close by the airport, and has lots of nice restaurants, bars & shoppes as well as the boat basin.

You might also consider taking the free G Bus in the bus area in arrivals and going to the Metro train station to catch the Green Line train. It connects with the Blue Line and the Red Line. The Blue Line takes you to Long Beach (above ground) and the Red Line takes you to down to downtown, Hollywood, or Universal City (mostly subway). Its $2.70 round trip. The Red Line extension to Universal City just opened this year. If you go to the Universal City Station, it is just a short walk up the hill to City Walk.. shops, restaurants, etc at Universal Studios. But you'll need to give yourself some time. It will take up to 90 minutes to get there and 90 minutes to get back, so you've killed 3 hours already. But it might be worth a couple hours there and is VERY EASY. Hollywood is another option to, and although it is cleaned up dramtically, it is still seedy. I am sure others have a million ideas as well, but this option does get you out of the terminal.

Acting Commander Catcop PremEx recommends: Nudes! Nudes! Nudes! just east of LAX on Century Blvd.

I had this problem a few years ago and caught the Big Blue Bus towards Marina Del Ray and there is a cinema complex about half way set in a shopping centre. You can see it from the bus but I asked the driver to tell me.It is on the left side outbound. Just opposite is one of the largest bookstores I have ever seen.
These kept me occupied for a good 6 hours.

You can take a bus to Santa Monica Promenade Mall. Cheesecake Factory for some heavy carbs. Interesting people, on the beach for the sunset, nice dinner at a couple of restaurants overlooking the beach and the sunset. There is the adjacent Mall for walking and eating and shopping with various kinds of people to watch. Etc.

you could take the shuttle to las vegas and back,

daily grill in the upstairs of the international terminal is a nice sit down restaurant,

get a view in the terminal of the runways, either north or south and count the number of aborted landings because of a fouled runway?

if there are a lot of delays, hang out by the customer service desk and listen to the angry passengers??
