MCI Calling Card

I have an MCI-WorldCom Calling Card (NOT pre-paid) I have been informed that calls from the UK to the US through their WorldPhone access number will cost me $1 connection fee and 9 to 14 cents per minute, to be charged to my home phone. Does this sound right?

Also, do any recent London visitors have info on buying British calling cards; which are the best value?

That actual seems pretty low. A ten minute call would be about $2.20, which is lower than the pre-paid rate (using the Costco cards).

A prepaid MCI card would sound right at that rate.

NO way in heck is a standard MCI calling card giving you that rate...

If you go to europe a few times a year - best bet for voice calls is to get a prepaid GSM phone and top that up as needed *AS* incoming calls are free and outbound calls on most providers (e.g. Orange) charge the same rate for international calls as a use on a contract plan (under 10p)

I signed up for a very similar plan in March. Monday and Friday were 17 cents per minute; weekends were 9 cents, all with an 89 cent per call surcharge. These prices were valid either using the calling card TO call the states or calling Europe FROM the states. There was a monthly fee of $7.95 less a $2 promo credit so the bottom line was that it didn't cost much more than if you were a regular subscriber to MCI. Once I knew that I would not be returning to Europe for a few months, I canceled the plan.
