Turkey Day in Gotham

My wife and I will be in NYC for 4 nights over Thanksgiving. Does anyone have a suggestions for a special Thanksgiving Day dinner? I was thinking about making reservation at Windows of the World (we're cashing points and staying at the Hilton Millenium downtown), but am definitely willing to listen to suggestions. What do you think?

Also, we will be attending the Macy's T-Day parade. Any suggestions for viewing?

Any other suggestions for shows or other activities while we are there.

If anyone else is around, we could stage a mini-gathering.

Gobble, gobble!

Bill,

re: The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

1. Dress warm.
2. Get there earlier than you want to.
3. Parade starts at 9am at 77th street and works its way down to 34th street. Santa leaves 77st at 11:00 and arrives at Macys at noon.
4. If you have kids, you'll want a curb spot.
The kids get very h e a v y on your shoulders.
5. No bathrooms, so go B4 you leave for the parade.
6. Best location..........IMHO, the mid-50's. It's less crowded. And make no mistake about it, the parade route is wall to wall people.

I used to work for Macy's. AND, I participated in 3 parades.
If it's not to cold out, go watch them inflate the balloons the night before. That's at the West 77 st staging area.

The parade is a blast. Have fun.

Bill, glad to see you and Karen coming to town! ENjoy the parade.

Dhammer's advice is on target. Get there EARLY for the best viewing.

As for Thanksgiving dinner, try:
http://www.ny.com/holiday/thanksgiving/eatout.html

It lists several of the more popular places for HOliday dinner. Again, BOOK NOW! A LOT OF PEOPLE EAT OUT FOR THANKSGIVING IN NYC!!!

I was stunned by the prices for turkey dinner

On another note, I don't know my schedule for that long weekend but maybe we could get together after Turkey day (working both Turkey Day and day after!)

I saw an ad saying Alison's on Dominick would be open. It's a very good restaurant downtown (near the Holland Tunnel), somewhat romantic, better food than Windows (tho no view). If it's just you and wife, I think it would be a good choice; if you're bringing children, maybe not. I'd ask them (or any other place you're considering) to fax or at least describe the menu, because it may not be typical. Another holiday favorite for me is Park Avenue Cafe; I haven't checked but they are usually open.

Excellent suggestion by rfrost, IMHO, with Allison on Dominick!

Now that Rosemarie's has closed, it may well be my favorite downtown restaurant. Great value and very easy parking too- if these are considerations too!

Have a great holiday!

Given the hassles involved in seeing the parade, if it's just you and your wife you may want to use the excuse to sleep late, order up room service, and watch it on TV!

Thanks all for your recommendations!

Cool link Catman. Getting together is fine with us. Anyone else who wants to join in, just speak up.

I've got tix to some matinee shows, but our evenings are free for the most part.
