Keep an eye on the confirmed rate!
A warning to those who book hotels online to carefully check the confirmed rate. I tried to book the Royal Kona Resort for early December last night and made my first foray on Expedia.com which would not complete the booking when I selected the rate (no response).
Proceeded to travelweb.com which gave me the same rate (through cheapestdeal.com). The quoted rate was USD 70/nt and I completed the reservation and all at that rate. Asked for an e-mail confirmation which came back minutes later. Found that the confirmed rate was $210 /nt!
Looked up their policy which in the small print tells you that the quoted rate can change but they don't notify you before you put down the deposit.
Anyway, cancel that reservation straight away. Went to travelscape.com which also gave the rate of $70/nt. Booked it and got the rate which was inclusive of tax for $155 or so for 2 nts.
Called to confirm the rate
but I still better print out the reservation confirmation.
