When 'E-tickets' are useless
When power outages or computer glitches act up - like yesterday's computer failure at ATC in Palmdale Calfornia, it is impossible to be put on a standby list on another airline even if they are accepting tickets from other airlines if you hold an e-ticket. That is when it is most useful to have a paper ticket. Contrary to what is claimed by the airline industry.

[*]when you want a same day boarding pass on co-StarAlliance (promissing seamless travelling ...) member UA but have a first segment and check-in with LH[*]when, on arrival, you must provide proof to immigrations/costums that you have a valid return ticket (Egypt, sometimes USA, Singapore, etc.)[*]when (on UA) you are not able to present the credit card the e-ticket was bought with (lost/replaced credit card, ticket bought with another credit card of your wife/friend/company/etc.)

Rudi, you are so right. UA are sticklers for this credit card business for instance, as has been discussed before. But e-tickets are great for last minute travel when you don't have time to get a paper ticket.
