Mileage Run Help

I am working on a mileage run--my first, and have run across unfamiliar territory. The fare I am looking at specifies "co-terminals are not permitted." What does that mean??? What I am thinking is flying SEA-TUS-SEA on one ticket, but while in Tucson, flying TUS-PDX-TUS on another ticket before returning to SEA on the first ticket. I'm just not sure what the co-terminal restriction is.

Would a co-terminal be like SEA-TAC or like if you did a mileage run through JFK-LAG-EWR?

Or the three Houston airports?

I don't know. Maybe Punki knows.

But T-L: I did a mileage run with two separate tickets: EWR-ORD-LAS-LAX-EWR. Between LAS and LAX I did: LAS-DEN-SLC-DEN-LAS.

I don't see where there's a problem with separate tixs.

Good luck on your mileage run. if you need a REAL mileage RUN: SEA-EWR/LAG.

My experience is that "no co-terminals" means that you must fly to-fro the specific airports stated on your ticket, with no changing of airports. For example, when I used to fly AA from SJC to LAX, if there was fog in LAX before departing SJC, I would often fly into Orange County or Burbank
instead. I was allowed to do this airport change (no fee) since those 3 airports are close to each other, and thus, viewed as co-terminals (Burbank, Orange County, and Los Angeles). With your ticket, if it says you are to fly from A to B and if there's problems with that routing (weather, etc.) you can't fly into the next nearby airport. This appears to be a very restrictive ticket. As an aside, some car rental companies allow a similar "co-terminal" view, ie, pickup the car at Los Angeles and return to Orange County for no extra charge.

There are no co-terminals to SEA, PDX or TUS, to my knowledge.

About the only time I ever use co-terminals is when I have a ticket SEA/SFO/SEA and decide at the last minute that it is more convenient to fly SEA/SFO/SJC/SEA. When I do that I fly standby, but have never had a problem on AS being MVP Gold.

Are there really smoking deals to TUS? When are you going?

I think I must be getting even lunier in my old age. I am at some deep down level thinking of joining you even though I don't need the miles.

Thanks everyone. The co-terminal restriction now makes sense.
Punki: No smoking deals except the Tucson bonus. I will post details in the AS forum, but this run could net us MVP Golds over 30,000 miles, 3 RT upgrades, and me another 10,000 threshold miles.
