Air Pacific is Fiji's national carrier and is partly owned by Qantas. I have heard that they have friendly and warm service, reflective of the nation they com from. You will probably fly a 762 from Australia to Nadi, then a 742 to LAX. Their economy seating is probably not as generous as Air New Zealand, but I'm sure you will be fine with them. (have heard their 737's are very cramped, but you wont be on one of those)..

glenngpr,
Took Air Pacific from SUV-AKL last Oct. and it was a pleasant experience. I think it was a 757 of some sort, but I could be wrong. Fortunate enough to sit in F, and the seats were big & comfy enough, the food tasty and plentiful (could've eaten as much as I wanted...and I did), and the FAs very polite and attentive. The cabin was only half-full, but I've flown enough (mostly on UA) to know that the cabin population often does NOT correlate to service. It depends strictly upon the individual FA and their training/corporate culture in most situations.
They even gave out a nice amenities kit wth some Fijian Sandlewood soap. Nice touch.

We flew AirPacific in July 1999 from SYD-SUV-SYD. It was the worst airline I've ever been on. The food was greasy in both directions. On the way to Suva, we were in coach and it was cramped. We hated it so much, that we paid full fare business class for the flight back (there were only 2 classes of service on the flights we took). Business class was only slightly better. The staff on the plane were wonderfully friendly. The staff on the ground at Suva are all idiots, which shows in their boarding process. It was a chaotic free-for-all and we barely got onto the plane before it took off, although we were there 2 hours before takeoff. I will never fly Air Pacific again.
Someone later mentioned to us that all the trouble we had was because we flew in and out of Suva. If we had flown to Nadi, it wouldn't have been so bad.
