puppypaws, Tom Parsons is the top dog at Bestfares.com He is a regular guest speaker on the morning shows (I'm not sure which one) when they have a bit on travel deals.

If a family member is sick, then of course you are more concerned about getting to them as efficiently and cheaply as possible, rather than strategizing for miles and upgrades.
My sympathies on your mother-in-law's illness and I hope you hear good news soon.
