If they are, it's news to me.
China Southern, however, besides having their own Sky Pearl FF club, is affiliated with Delta. If mileage are what you/your friend are after, then it might be worth trying to get on CZ as much as possible, though there are some routes that CZ does not cover.

I believe Delta Air Lines and China Eastern do have a codeshare and FFP agreement. Delta codeshare's on China Eastern's 777 flight from LAX to Guanganzou (spelling, anyone?). You can earn SkyMiles on that flight, and possibly on any China Eastern flight.

Actually, rereading my post, I realize that I mixed up China Eastern and China Southern. I believe I described China Southern in my last post, not China Eastern (as the original poster was looking for).
