New Angkor Wat limitations

I'll be visiting Angkor in August, and I have heard that new measures have been implemented to curtail the number of visitors. I have heard that one bus of visitors is allowed per day.

Can anyone confirm this and explain how this system works?

droneklax and essxjay, I just viewed an article in the bangkok post, www.bangkokpost.com in the Horizons section dated June 22 2000. It mentions a requirement for visitors to Angkor Wat to have photo IDs for their multiday passes. The policy began this month; but nothing was mentioned about the tour bus restrictions.
Essxjay, when will you be going?

I have a detailed report of a trip a couple months ago to Angkor Wat on:
www.GlenStephens.com/travel.html

No travel restrictions .. just a HIGH airport Departure Tax though!

One of the GREAT travel trips of your life.

One BUSLOAD of visitors a day .. someone was kidding you!! There are a few 1000 1st class hotel rooms around that place now! There are a few busloads of snotty nosed kids floging souveniers just for starters.

Also, if flying THAI ex BKK to Pnomh Penh, their Business Class rate is about $US60 per sector if you REALLY snoop around and ask about it ... lovely seats, and double and a half points on United/Star Alliance too!

No problem at all with Malaria there it seems now totally eradicated in a UN campaign - but I took along tablets, like all us dumb tourists do!

You can fly Sydney-PNH via BKK, and THAI give you a free ***** hotel stopover either way, all for about $US600 so why not do that! Get a free side trip to OZ on the waty thru! Think of the extra points.

Cheers Glen

Thats ROUND trip from Sydney for $600 not one way btw! You can "open jaw" on same fare from PNH to either Saigon, Hanoi, Yangon etc to or from SYD, all of which are very interesting to visit as well, and all of which allow that cheap $US60 Business Class full upgrade.

RT price is $US575 today's rate. Lot of flying ex SYD.

If you do it you MUST get THAI to issue the Amari ***** Hotel voucher BEFORE you leave Sydney. THAI staff totally ignore you in BKK (their home!) if you do not have one. Room is about $US150 night alone! Not bad on a $575 long flight ticket. Lovely new Hotel right in center of airport.

Taxis in BKK dirt cheap now, as the new freeways are superb to all city areas. Used to be the worse traffic in Asia. Still is, --- OFF the freeways!
