need help connecting flight in LGW
delta from atl to LGW, arrive 8:40a.m.
need to connect to paris by BA
two flights availabe: one at 9:20a.m.
the other around 1:00p.m.
which one should i take? how far do i have to run to catch the earlier connection? anything to do at gatwick for 5 hours?
all ur suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I think DL may park at the South terminal remote satellite (not 100% sure but NW and US do) and if so, you'll have to take an automated shuttle to the main South terminal before going to the North terminal that BA uses. I am not sure where the transfer point to the North terminal is so you don't have to go through U.K. entry (the terminals are connected by a landside non-sterile shuttle).

BA European departures are separate from most of the action at LGW, if I remember correctly--definitely a separate terminal from CO & VS.
My memory of the terminal set-up (fuzzy) is that you might indeed need to clear UK entry to transition between terminals, though there may be a 'back door' route I never noticed.
If you're at LGW for the layover, you could take the Gatwick Express in to Victoria Station. It is 30-40 min each way (~10 pounds), but Victoria is busy & central enough to make killing a few hours very pleasant. London's first EasyEverything internet store is also just across the street (lots of computers, cheap internet access)....

to terenz, it was a last minute booking, and i have to be in paris on the 14th...
the other alternative is ATL-JFK-LYON-CDG, kinda long and winding...

It appears as though everything you want is in the same terminal - BUT, 40 minutes from arrive to depart is tight. Plus, if you have everthing on seperate tickets, will they transfer you baggage from one flight to the other??

Good news as Larrude says. I checked the LGW home page (www.baa.co.uk) and DL does use the North terminal (same as BA). Still, you don't have too much time. I wouldn't risk if the ATL-LGW and LGW-CDG flights are not on the same ticket/itinerary. You could take a chance if DL really pads their schedule well (e.g., if the allowed flight time is 9 hrs or more).

thanks, i shall take everyones advice and connect the second flight, may be a much later one if i venture out to victoria station, because i dont have to be at CDG until 9:30p.m., meeting someone from zurich... does anyone know if LGW have baggage storage kiosks like those in the train stations?

Belle, glad you took everyones advice. But the walk is unbelievable and you'll be glad you made the walk, especially if they have to bus you in to the terminal from the plane (it's happened to me twice at LGW).
