7 hours at ISP
Well, I decided to take my first ever mileage run, as it looks as though I may actually come close to making (GASP!) SILVER Medallion this year on DL, and since most of my friends seem to be pre engaged or out of town this weekend. I found a fare for $169 to fly TPA-ISP, and bought a ticket for a round trip this Saturday. However now I have 7 hours to kill there. Is it feasible to get to NYC and back to ISP in 7 hours? or would it be better to see something out on Long Island? I am not opposed to either renting a car, or riding public transportation, as long as I can be certain of getting back in time. I have from 10:50 AM til 6:00 PM at ISP. Thanks for the help.

NYC might get a bit tricky. Once you pass exit 35 on the LIE you can easily be stuck in traffic for seven hours. You can rent a car and visit some interesting sights. Teddy Roosevelt's home is not far. There's a winery near ISP. If you're into malls you could drive to Roosevelt Field.

It takes about an hour and 20 minutes on the Long Island Railroad from the nearest station to ISP(Ronkonkomo) to midtown Manhattan. You can check out fares and schedule at http://www.lirr.org
