How much to tip Airport- Hotel Shuttle Bus Drivers

A thread to run with tipping skycaps.

Catman has a good timesaving and moneysaving idea here.

Same answer, new thread:

I tip $1-2 for the ride & baggage. Unless, of course, the shuttle driver insists on waiting for a car that just pulled in to the lot to find a spot, park and unload; then load them up before we can be on our way. Usually tipping when I get on the shuttle avoids that scenario.

Cheers,

'toad

I often use a airport shuttle and hotel only for luggage storage - and than (feeling "guilty") I might tip them more - still cheaper than paying for luggage storage at the airport. And taxis from the hotel don't add the airport charge - and are easier to get.

and ... let the hotel shuttle (tip him beforehand), starting from the hotel, bring you to the rental car spot (example San Francisco) and than insist, that the car rental company doesn't charge you the sometimes up to 10-12% airport surcharge on your rental bill!

ooh, Rudi...that's a slick one. Do you have success getting them to remove the surcharge?

Rudi, two clever and novel traveler strategies: using a hotel for "left luggage"; and the "not an airport customer" for the rental car. You are a big part of the reason I read FT.

One-two dollars for the shuttle ride, if the driver at least offers assistance with any luggage.

Mr. Limo... you think like me!

Help with baggage: one dollar.
Small talk and arrival near the front of the hotel: another dollar.

No talk no luggage help: nothing.

OMNI: NOW I AM VERY VERY CONCERNED!!
I think someone posted that the shuttle to the Westin LAX hotel is sporatic and you wait a long time. I'm staying here going to and coming from PIP!!! PLEASE ADVICE!!!

If I take a cab the driver may give me a nasty attitude. If the Westin has a shuttle it should be there when I arrive (after 10p)

Thank you!

the sporadic Westin shuttle was mentioned to be in SFO - not LAX. Relax.

Catman ~ We're staying at the Westin LAX on November 9, so you make sure to straighten 'em out before we get there.

Catman: stayed at the westin LAX on sun. 4-25 and the shuttle service was horrible. was at the end of the loop (UA) and waited 45 min. at least one passed by full, but they just didn't have enough of them running. following morning back to airport just as bad. it seemed like they did not have enough drivers.
