What makes B&B expensive?

Hi, here,
I am a new comer for the B&B.

I just visited Colorado Springs, CO. The
rate for Broadmoor is only $189/night, while
I checked the rates for B&B nearby, and to
my surprise, most of them match Broadmoor's
rate.

What makes B&B so expensive?

I have traveled B&B's for years. The major reasons that some seem quite expensive is based on limited season, cost of staff (if any),cost of food (breakfast and often afternnon refreshments),combined with the unability to defray these costs through volume. But the most obvious reason for thir price: They can get it.

We hadn't stayed in Napa Valley for two or three years and we decided to spend the night this past spring and I was aghast at what had happened to the B&B pricing. You could spend a week at one of the finest hotels in Singapore/Hong Kong/Bangkok for what you'd pay for a weekend in Napa at a B&B. I guess the Silicon Valley dotcommers pushed up the prices.

I was at a B&B in Napa last weekend. It was over $300 per night. The "Manor" was a cheaply made large tudor home. The furniture was vaneer and there was nothing special about the room at all.

The breakfast was great.

In all my years of B&B travel, they have been more expensive than hotels. Some, because of location and quality , are "crazy" expensive. But,that's crazy related to my pocketbook, not necessarily others. I personally hate to spend more than $150, but sometimes do.The biggest problem is value. Hopefully, over time, this forum will us as we look for quality.
