Complaining will most likely achieve nothing. As you say he is a commercial platform. He has likely contracts with airlines for his videos so crew are under order to let him do it and management will know he is onboard. Same way that if you were flying with a marketing team paid by said airline to do an advertisement.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...19231a34b3.jpg One gentleman of apparently Malaysian descent on a MH flight (when they had just joined OW and introduced the A380s) from KUL to CDG was particularly annoying as he wasn't just taking a few pictures but filming all the time. Like, standing in the aisle across from our seats and pointing his camera at us for minutes at a time while speaking into a microphone in a language I couldn't understand. As he spoke no/very limited English I summoned the crew and asked the FA to translate that I didn't appreciate being filmed and what this was for. He replied that he was a blogger doing some promotional piece and this was with the airline's blessing. I repeated that I had no interest at all in appearing in his video and would not consent to this. He continued to go on about how he had permission to film from MH's media relations dept and showed the FA some documents on his phone substantiating that claim. The FA then retreated and fetched someone in uniform (either relief pilot or check pilot or something of that caliber - this was like the second day of A380 operations at MH and they had some technical issues with the aircraft ) . After a brief discussion with the older gentleman in uniform, the videographer turned his camera off and went out of my sightlines. I saw him in the airport later where we all waited for our bags, and someone with him approached me and said he wanted to apologize, but he never saw a large dog on airplanes before and how come I was traveling with a dog. With the help of someone to translate, I told him about the concept of service animals and that they do exist for other purposes than guide dogs for the Blind. |
What bloggers/vloggers do you guys like? I'm kind of into Josh because he visits insane places, but I dislike his style (e.g. he should use voiceovers and refrain from the insults).

Right now? Jeb Brooks and Dennis Bunnik for me. Paul Walker (a part-time FTer) isn't too bad but a bit wordy. Paul Smith. Then a few japanese vloggers who don't talk (further upthread are some recommendations).

I've never heard of guys. What do they blog about?

If I was ever seated next to these types of vloggers, I would definitely just start talking to myself or making enough consistent noise where they couldn't upload any footage.

4. Yup. I'd start playing music just like I mentioned previously. Preferably someone from a big label that'll get them demonetized or hopefully a copyright strike. If I knew who they were I'd report the video once published.

Personally, I like the Noel Phillips "lou review" and Bald & Bankrupt. I also like to two guys from Eastern Europe, who do their version of "trash videos," with the worst & best rated in Romania etc.

I do enjoy the concept of travel vlogs, but surely its possible to crank out ones that aren't annoying to viewers or others involved on the scene. Key points for me:
-use post trip voiceovers for the audio; even if you think you speak quietly -avoid the fancy equipment setups; I don't need to see your airplane meal in in high def with studio lighting in order to get the picture -spare us of provocative click bait titles or commentary like "worst airline ever" --I don't care if there are other people in the videos (sometimes unavoidable at popular tourist attractions), but when you're on the airplane itself, this isn't so necessary (food, seat, views from the window) -I really value time/money saving tips on things like immigration, checkin, ground transportation, convenient hotels, and airport restaurants (even if there are lounge options that that vlogger qualities for) |

I haven't watched any of the travel vloggers but I do see poker vloggers almost nightly and almost against my will. :) My boyfriend, who is in his 50s, watches them. Some of these vloggers are in their early 20s and somehow my boyfriend seems fascinated with them. We've both played poker in casinos, as well as out, for 20 or more years. So here he is listening to the advice of these kids who are not even playing the same games as us but yet, he has difficulty listening to any advice from me. It's just such a strange concept that these vloggers assume they have something special and unique to say. And then there are the people who are fascinated by them because they are "on TV". The bottom line is that they wouldn't be doing it if there weren't people watching it. And the more people who watch the videos, the more money they make. Sometimes I think more power to them that they can make a lot of money doing this and they must be smart. But usually, I just want people to stop encouraging them! :D

FWIW I couldn't have guessed the ginger-haired man to be Noel Phillips - never noticed he had any hair.. |
