Winter Beachside resort on Points
Hi,
I have ~1M miles between my Delta Amex and my Chase Sapphire reserve. Need a free beachside getaway this winter (and I know I'm late in planning)
Info:
Departing from CLE or DTW
Want to stay on points (expensive year for renovating my house). Just me
Don't need big convention hotel (hah), golf or casino or fancy dinners or all inclusive (prefer to shy away from it, actually)
Nice room, nice beach (or fantastic view with fantastic beach within driving distance)
Snorkeling in close driving proximity (I spend most of my vacation reading, exploring by car and/or snorkeling)
At least 7 days, up to 10 or 14. Dates can be flexible
Thinking Caribbean, but could be convinced to go elsewhere
I've stayed at the Marriott on Grand Cayman and Westin (?) on St John. Was thinking about the Westin on Vieques, but was bummed to see that it never reopened.
Prefer less travelled (hah, on points). However, for an idea:
Places I have or would return to
North Shore of Grand Cayman,
Little Cayman/Cayman Brac
St John (Coral Bay)
Virgin Gorda
Placencia Belize
Would consider returning to
Bonaire
Hawaii
Thailand (away from Phuket)
Don't care to revisit
St Thomas
Tortola
Riviera Maya
Acapulco
Points only....ideas welcome
Thx

Wow, The Cove in Eleuthera seems just about perfect. But I can't figure out a way to pay with points

Mauna Kea, I could do that.
Scrub Island is a possibility, but I've already explored that corner of the world....Last edited by navi_jen; Nov 22, 2022 at 7:26 pm

Cape, Cabo - 25,000 Hyatt points/night - you can transfer Ultimate Reward points to Hyatt. I've stayed here and had a dead on view of the water and Arch. It's a lovely property.
Thompson Zihuatanejo - property is on the sand but not all rooms are ocean view. 25,000 Hyatt points/night. I haven't stayed yet but will soon.

I second Mauna Kea, it was the first place that popped into my mind when I read the OP.

Cozumel Westin
The Westin is a little isolated, but upgrades Platinum well. The snorkeling right at the resort is pretty good. I would recommend renting a car, at least for a bit. The snorkeling at Cozumel is great, and there are some nice beaches there. I've stayed at the Westin twice, and I really like it. For points, it's the best place I've stayed in Mexico. If you wanted to mix it up a bit, the Occidental there (all inclusive) has a lovely beach, good snorkeling, a dive shop on premises that offers snorkel trips, good food, an adult pool, and it's a fairly small resort with not too many kids. I've stayed there twice and been very happy. Cozumel has great snorkeling, a lovely town, and isn't too touristy.
