British Airways and Sri Lankan cleared to same flight level

It is being reported that a UL flight was cleared by Ankara on a conflicting flight level to a BA flight. It was only due to the UL refusing to climb that averted a potential disaster. Has anyone else heard about this?

The report said that the BA flight had possible intermittent transponder failure.
Twelve nautical miles apart is very close at those speeds. That really was a close call.

Written like a high school journalism student.
The lives of 275 passengers on UL 504, its crew members, and the lives of passengers on the British Airways flight and its crew members were saved due to the vigilance and strong decision-making of the Chief Pilot of UL 504.
One source I found quoted 1,000 TCAS warnings a day. 12nm flying in the same direction apparently didn't even trigger a traffic advisory, let alone a resolution advisory.

Every Pilot and ATC forum I'm on is rolling their eyes hard enough to see the back of their heads at the news reporting of this "event".
