Ok, so not much gets me going these days, but I was seated next to a very malodorous passenger who was in 9B on AA6088 PDX-LAX or 6/24. He literally reeked of dope and it was freaking disgusting. Of course there were no other seats The FA acknowledged that he whiffed but did not offer any kind of solution, so I endured. It's bad enough with 'traditional' smellies, but with this new found freedom to self medicate being available on the whole West Coast, I'm starting to notice an increase in stoners on board. I doubt they even realize how much they smell, or how repulsive that smell is to others. It was so strong that when I got off the plane and met a colleague at LAX, he noted I had a 'fragrance' about me!
I'm starting to think there needs to be legislation here, what say you?

How precisely would your "law" be enforced? Would their be "smell police" who could prowl the public spaces to apprehend the malodorous? What should happen to the offenders?

Smokers can't and don't smell themselves. True for tobacco, cannabis, meth, or anything that is habitually smoked by someone. Their brains desensitize them to the odor.
I didn't realize this until I quit tobacco in my 20's and then went to the bar with my friends. Boy oh boy, I couldn't believe how bad I smelled the next day after being around tobacco smoke all night, and I realized that I had unknowingly smelled like that all the time before I quit.
And whether or not you realize it, there are stoners around you in daily life all the time. Only the slobs reek of bong water and dank bud.

A handful of times Ive been too close to sweat-stinking passengers on my flight for it to be comfortable. But more commonly its the stink of food on the plane that troubles me; and after that, in terms of frequency on planes, it would be perfume/cologne, or, worse yet, the nail polish and/or acetone smell.

I have sat next to more smoke-stinking passengers than sweat-stinking passengers. I am not sure if the issue with smoke-stinking passengers is made worse or better by airports having seemingly grown the number of designated smoking boxes/areas airside in some parts of the world.
If only more airports would have free showers for passengers, that may help a bit. Although I doubt smokers would use it as much as someone who realized they had a major sweat and would prefer to shower as soon as easily possible for no additional charge.

As someone who went out to places that had smokers aplenty who were smoking like a chimney at full blast, I will say that changing clothes is never enough. And a shower too is needed to get the smoke out of the hair and skin. I could literally smell the smoke stench come out as I would wash up before bed even as a non-smoker, even as someone who would try to move away from smokers.
