Questions about changing return flights
I will leave Thailand for the states in two weeks, but not return until June of 2020. Then I will stay in Thailand for 4 months and then back to the states. Would I be penalized by an airline if I buy a round trip ticket for the maximum time allowed and just not show up or should I just buy a one-way ticket and do the round trip ticket beginning in 2020? Which is cheaper?

Thailand for 4 months, the Thailand to USA (Oct 2020?)
What airline/airlines?
Is not uncommon for people to miss/no show flights. One ways can be as expensive as a return, but varies a lot. Air tickets are generally only good for 1 year.
USA immigration may have limits on your stay, depending on your passport & visa. They may want to see a return ticket to Thailand
