List of cashless airlines who don't accept cash for onboard purchases.

I wasn't too sure what section of the forum that this should go in so apologies if it is in the wrong section.

I am wondering if anyone has a list of cashless airlines who don't accept cash for purchases on board. Unfortunately more and more airlines seem to be going cashless for purchases onboard (which can be very inconvenient) so it would be good to know exactly which airlines are cashless and which airlines accept cash onboard.

Some airlines publish this on their websites but others are rather vague about whether or not they accept cash for onboard purchases.

Many thanks.

I thought all the major US based ones no longer did. However, I don't usually buy anything on board and I haven't flown any of the ULCCs, so I could be mistaken.

Delta and Alaska both don't.

I don't miss it at all. I remember many, many times where the FAs were going row to row, trying to find change for a $20/$10/$50/whatever. Slowed the service way down and was an unnecessary intrusion.

Do any of the major US airlines accept cash on board?

AA / DL / UA / AS / WN definitely don't, I assume B6 doesn't either but haven't flown them in a long time so not sure.

Actually, I find that a lot of people do so for smaller purchases. This might just be where I live/the places I shop at, though.

I was a bit sarcastic and talking more about "travel community"
Trust me, where I live I still see a granny or two writing checks. Drives me nuts.

British Airways

Wouldn't it be shorter to draw up a list of airlines that do still accept cash?

It can matter a lot for kids traveling as UMs. If parents haven't arranged a prepaid credit card or something similar, they can't buy food on board without relying on the goodwill of their seatmates. I wouldn't want to put a kid traveling alone into the position of having to approach strangers for favors.

get your kids some food before they go on board. If you are willing to let your kids fly alone “no cash for food is the least of your worries.

You're probably correct... I was going to start a wiki on behalf of the OP, but the wiki should really be a an "Accepts Cash" list.
Problem is, everyone is responding based on the original question.

Many thanks for the responses. Much appreciated.

Based on the responses and information i have found online i have made the following two lists showing which airlines accept cash and which airlines don't accept cash and covering many airlines worldwide:

Accept Cash:
• Aer Lingus
• Aeroflot
• Air Baltic
• Air Greenland
• Air Malta
• Alitalia
• Atlantic Airways
• Austrian Airlines
• Easyjet
• Egypt Air
• Emirates Airlines
• Etihad Airways
• Eurowings
• Finnair
• Germania
• Gulf Air
• Jet 2
• Kuwait Airways
• LOT Polish Airlines
• Lufthansa
• Oman Air
• Qatar Airways
• Royal Air Maroc
• Royal Jordanian Airlines
• Ryanair
• Saudia
• Scandinavian Airlines
• South African Airways
• Swiss Airlines
• Wizz Air

Do Not Accept Cash:
• Air Canada
• Alaska Airlines
• Allegiant Air
• American Airlines
• British Airways
• Delta Airlines
• Frontier Airlines
• Hawaiian Airlines
• Icelandair
• Jet Blue
• Norwegian Air
• Southwest Airlines
• Spirit Airlines
• Sun Country Airlines
• United Airlines
• Virgin Atlantic
• Westjet
• Wow Air

These lists are not complete so i will keep adding more airlines to them when i find more information.

It's interesting to note that it is mainly USA and Canada based airlines that don't accept cash whilst most (but not all) of the European, Middle Eastern, Asian, African, based airlines do still accept cash. I wonder if there are even any USA and Canada based airlines that actually still accept cash.
