As a single data point, my in-laws visited Thailand with us a few years ago and my F-I-L takes opioids for pain. With enough lead time, they arranged with the Thai authorities the appropriate paperwork to be able to enter with enough for personal use. This was to enter Thailand, but at least it's one lead you can follow up since I'm sure you could fly LHR-BKK-NZ.
Checking back on my notes (thanks gmail!), they somehow needed to get a hold of a Thai form IC-1, submit it with scans of their doctor's prescription and an explanatory note, and after pestering the authorities a few times, duly got a form IC-2 back to be fully legal - even though at entry they just got waved through and no-one wanted to see the form.
The email address for info was narcotic (at) fda.moph.go.th and the mailing address was Narcotics Control Division
Food and Drug Administration
Ministry of Public Health
Nonthaburi 11000, THAILAND
Good luck!

NZ policy which is pretty easy and standard
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/...es-new-zealand
ive done this before with pseudoephedrine which is highly restricted in NZ. The only thing I can really advise you in addition is to build extra time into any transfers you may make within NZ- I was at customs for a good hour as the bloke had to contact the pharmacy that had issued it (as its not prescription only in Australia so had been bought over the counter), verifying my ID against that recorded by the pharmacy, count the number of tablets, enter that into his computer against my file (presumably to make sure this wasnt a pattern of behaviour and I wasnt running some kind of electorate scheme to import tiny quantities very frequently?), along with batch numbers etc. It then all had to be verified by a second member of customs staff
entirely possible that I just ran into a very thorough employee but luckily I was living in Auckland at the time, if id had a connecting flight to catch I would have been sweating!!
