variability in phone agents
Just want to vent about the incredible variability of the telephone reservation agents I have gotten on Lufthansa, although this probably applies to many other airlines also.
Two years ago they erroneously separated me and my diabetic wife on a long haul flight. I explained to the first agent that this is a life-threatening situation if my wife goes into hypoglycemic coma. She said there was nothing she can do and it's basically our tough luck. I hung up, got another agent who immediately put our seats together
Had to just reschedule a LAX- Rome flight . Was connected to an agent who at first didn't seem to understand that is a modification of a previous trip. I gave her the precise new itinerary I wanted but over the next THIRTY MINUTES- I still didn't have my changes. Is it possible that their reservation computers work much more slowly than what we have on the Internet? She made me wait about five minutes before asking for my wife's name after I provided mine. Towards the end of this process she put me on hold and then the connection was broken. He already had my cell phone number but I guess it was too much to expect she would call me back
I called Lufthansa again and obtained a very nice gentleman who had to start from the beginning, and the whole process took only five minutes
My advice is that if you call perhaps any airline and it seems as if your agent is not the sharpest tool in the shed, to just hang up and call again.
I complained a little to the second agent and he laughed and said the initial agent was from the Philippines. He was a German from South Africa, but want to be politically correct here

What led to them rerouting your wife but not you? (Or vice versa.) That's bizarre...were you coming from two separate short-haul feeder flights to the same long-haul? I assume you were on separate PNRs to begin with? (Otherwise they'd have to split it, which would be even stranger.)
I've always wondered why airline personnel were typing whenever I've had to call them to do what should be a 2- or 3-click change. If feels like they're writing a novel into some custom comment field when all I'm trying to do is rebook a segment or something. I completely don't get it.

With United I have had to make minor changes a few times on one way flights from IAH to ??? Maybe a day earlier or later, or FLL instead of MIA. It is always $200. PP fee.
One time I was so fortunate to get an agent who made the change and told me she wasn't going to charge us, we were still making the flight. I was amazed and of course thanked her so much for her kindness. I have always wondered why that one agent didn't charge us.
