Honest advice: You would be better of lurking and waiting for sales than book economy in the hopes that you may be upgraded. Particularly on the very busy international routes, you won't get an upgrade cheaply or any upgrade whatsoever.

Oman Air - I paid $50 each way to go from Economy to full-flat Business on a 787-9.

Nice one. I hear their Business cabin on the 787's is very good.

Which route was that on?

The always glamorous RUH-MCT route, so sadly no alcohol.

Oman Air currently have two leased 787s of one type and the remainder are their own, which means they have two entirely different types of business class, which is very confusing. Both were very good and almost entirely empty.

Was that an opportunity to bid or did they offer you an upgrade for a fixed price? They have sent me an email prior to OLCI on each occasion I have flown in PE with them. The price has always been mentioned in the email.
