Most of the stuff that is generally known as "Christmasy" these days originated in the German-language sphere. Christmas in the UK isn't really anything to write home about. Any German-speaking city will beat London as far as Christmas is concerned.

Salzburg is magical at Christmas. I imagine Vienna is as well.
