Will the owner who forgot his three Boeings please collect them from KLIA / KUL?

How exactly does this happen? Don't you normally have to fill out some sort of paperwork before parking a plane at an airport, especially a 747?

Strange. Wonder how long they've been there. Seems they are (were?) registered to Air Atlanta Icelandic and Malaysian KS Kargo.

Already posted here.

This is probably a necessary formal notice before the (airport?) authorities initiate action to dispose of the aircraft for whatever they can get in order to pay down unpaid fees and costs.

Some airplane owners hide their equipment to avoid the repo man...

VFR might be able to do it,,

There are couple of extra 747s. Any takers?

BTW, comments are quite informative and entertaining to read.

Happens...

Back in the early noughties there was an AN-124 parked at EHBK for years. It had passed through multiple sub-leases to various dodgy outfits in the former Soviet Union - its most recent sorties had involved flying duty free European cigarettes into Kazakstan... needless to say the operators saw airport fees as an optional cost and as soon as they had made enough flights to retire, they disappeared... Eventually Antonov itself stepped in, flew in a new set of engines, pumped up the tyres and flew it home.

This is quite amusing. I wonder what KUL made them to come up with this now - after some 5y of the birds playing lame duck and even being engines dismantled on one already. Something along "hey, it's time do renew the tarmac on the apron, but those 747s...."? :-)

The parking fees for a 747 would be substantial, especially if it were left parked at a major airport for a significant period of time.

I think the Airplane Repo guys would be out of their depth on this one! I'm interested to know what they sell for.

I'm almost surprised that they haven't already been stripped for parts. That's what happens when you abandon a vehicle and leave it parked someplace.

I'd be surprised if they are worth more than the sum total of their parts.

In all liklihood someone will have to be paid to cut them up for scrap.

From comments on Yahoo article:

Pretty easy to source this. Air Atlantica Icelandic owned all 3 of these airplanes. All 3 went into storage in 2012 in Pinal Airpark in Arizona. They were purchased by a Malaysia company for scrap price and flown to KLIA. They were gutted of most usable parts, then left by the Malaysia company.

The Malaysia company that purchased the airplanes were actually a China group. They shut down and disappeared back to China. Won't find them. Pretty common practice. Jakarta Airport has 40 abandoned airplanes.

The newspaper notices are required by law to remove the airplanes. The law was written in 1969 when newspaper notices were required by law.
Aha. Standard Chinese business practice - register company in third country, fly planes there, take the most valuable parts and disappear - let locals deal with the rest.

Yikes. This made CNN (USA version), complete with photos of the three unclaimed 747s.
