flying separate segments, through-checked baggage

Hello, I have plans to fly NYC-MVD, and EZE-NYC with TAM Airlines, with layovers in GIG and GRU, respectively. In searching for a good fare, I found that breaking up one of the legs showed me better prices. Thus instead of Flight 1 NYC-GIG-MVD and Flight 2 EZE-GRU-JFK, the itinerary would look like this:

Flight 1 JFK-GIG-MVD
Flight 2 EZE-GRU
Flight 3 GRU-JFK

All flights are operated by TAM, and the search was done on Kayak. I am curious to know if TAM would simply consolidate the three flights into one reservation, and whether that would mean I can get my bags checked through all the way to MVD first, and all the way to JFK on my way back.

If anyone has experience with this or has any insight, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

They won't consolidate it into one ticket, but they are likely to check your bags through on both legs. I don't have experience with TAM specifically, though.
