Do you leave beer in the hotel when you check out?
When I travel I often will buy a six-pack of beer before checking in to my hotel. For whatever reason, I rarely drink more than two, and sometimes only one. Obviously I should just buy one of the big 24-oz. cans, but at the time I'm buying it I always think I will want more. I rarely do.
So when I check out, I almost always leave at least four beers in the hotel room. I assume the maid grabs these. I'm not big on tipping unless I've left a mess or stayed all the way until check-out time, but I figure four beers are worth four dollars, which is a princely tip! Do hotel employees have a system of distributing left beer and liquor?
I could carry the beer with me, but I don't unless I have a cooler in the car. Beer tastes different after it's been chilled and then heated up and then chilled again. Anyway, I'm just curious if any of you do the same by buying a bunch of beer and then leaving most of it behind.

I don't drink beer, but I do drink sodas. Often, I'll leave a can or two (since I'm flying and not driving and can't get the can in a 1-quart baggie) - but not "most". I assume the maid gets the drinks.

If I have to fly, I'll leave it for the hotel staff or rental car staff or find a particular staff member who has been helpful. If driving, I have a collapsible cooler in the car, just stick it in there with my chilled water and lunch, etc. Try to freeze a couple waters to keep things cold.

I just did and often do. It kills me but when I'm racing to get ready to check out for (what is usually) a flight home, the last thing I want to drink is a beer. It seems a bit wasteful, but the hotel charges more for one beer than I paid for the entire six-pack!

I also do this with beer or leave partially finished bottles of Scotch (decent single malt). I hate leaving the latter but this is often much better for me than trying to kill the bottle the night before!
A couple weeks ago, in Myanmar, the maid came running from my villa to give me a 1/4 bottle of Aberlour. I just gave it to the European staff there who were quite pleased.
I do not consider this an acceptable replacement for a cash tip in places where tipping is expected though.

- No I wouldn't leave it! If I'm about to get on an international flight anyhow, I need to be drunk.. I would work on drinking it as I'm getting ready to go. One as I'm showering, One as I'm getting my make-up on, another one as I'm packing.... you get the idea.
That would keep me going until I got to the airport and got through security and made it to the lounge, where I would continue the drink-a-thon. Then, since my company flies me in biz class, there would be no reason to stop for a while.

I've been known to overbuy and leave a bottle of wine. Just recently, I was booked for two nights and after my plans for the 2nd night fell apart I just took advantage of the UA free rebooking and left the night before I'd planned to. Extra bottle of wine I couldn't take with me, so I just left it behind. I figure the cleaning person would snag it.

I've left beers in the hotel fridge a few times. I hope they end up getting drank rather than tossed. Although the past couple times have been at Casino hotels so I would imagine the staff probably finds a lot of boozes in the rooms.

I often leave beer/soda also. I am sure that the housekeepers take it and enjoy it (hopefully not while they are working). I would think that they are fairly discriminating about what to keep. The half eaten pizza in the fridge goes in the trash but the 5 pack of Corona comes home.

Given that I exclusively drink craft beer that seems to run $8 to $12 for a four- to six-pack, I try to only buy beer if I'm staying somewhere for 3 nights or more. Otherwise I find myself in your boat. I have been known to stop at a liquor store to buy some airplane bottles. Those I usually finish without much trouble. Maybe I buy those in a more "controlled" fashion.
