Baggage check through oddity?

Question

Hi all!

I have a strange set of circumstances....

I booked the following route to travel in a few months time with with Virgin Atlantic:

Manchester UK - london Heathrow - tokyo haneda.

On the way out we have a 2hr 35min window to change (which was greater under our initial booking, more on that in a second). On the way back we have 2hrs 5mins to change.

The manchester to London leg was with little red (Virgin), the London to Tokyo bit is operated by all nippon airways but is a codeshare, so on paper a virgin flight (that's how I think of it anyway, although I'm aware that may be wrong!).

All was well until Virgin pulled the little red service and Expedia have shifted is on to british airways for the little connecting flights, leaving us on Virgin (ana) for the big bit.

I called Expedia and they said that the flights are on a single ticket, but then said that our bags might not be checked through and we may have to collect that Heathrow....obviously this means going through customs, getting bags, dropping them off for the next flight and going back through security.....it doesn't look possible to me.

However, the Expedia guy sounded a bit clueless if I'm honest and I don't really trust him(!).

Does anyone here know what ba will do with checking bags through to the ana flight?

I'm also a bit concerned on where we stand if a flight is delayed and we miss a connection (on the way out this is more of a worry!).

If anyone has any advice id be very grateful!

Thanks!

Welcome to FT!

Call BA and ask if it has an "interline baggage agreement" with ANA. If it does, and if all of your flights are indeed on a single ticket, then you should have no trouble checking your bags through, and you should be protected in the event of irregular operations.
