Oxygen concentrators

We have flown on American with a concentrator. How often do you have to have a new physicians statement? When using Delta you have to have a statement newly completed for each trip which is a real pain especially for last minute flights. Does anyone know the frequency of a newly signed statement for American and United?

I don't have an answer to your question but you just answered mine. I'm prepping for a trip with my brother. It's our second trip and was just starting to look into the form. Now I know that I have to get another one signed.

United's policy: http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont...er_oxygen.aspx

One thing of note. It says that the doctor's certificate must state that the concentrator can be used for the expected length of *the flight* plus 3 hours which implies, to me, that you have to have one for each trip.

Couldn't the doctor just write it based on how long it can be used without regard for the flight duration?

You can rent/buy additional batteries for most units.

I took my brother to Hawaii last year for vacation. Due to the length of the flights, I rented 14 batteries for his machine. It was quite the task but it was worth it.

And make sure they are charged before leaving. Even if your POC has a 12-volt adapter, the outlets on the plane may not deliver enough current to run it.
