Ever flown on a blimp?

Hi all..

While this might seem like a shameless plug for the flight for two on the Goodyear Blimp that has been donated to the charity auction that I help run (see my post in the Flyertalk Cares forum), I'm actually trying to learn a bit from previous blimp passengers so I can do a better job marketing this wonderful donation!!

So if you've been up in the Goodyear Blimp (or other similar dirigible) I'd love hearing your stories! (Were there any FTers at the dedication ceremony for the new blimp Wingfoot One this past weekend? Ok.. - it's actually not a blimp at all, because it's got a semi-rigid interior frame.. so I guess it should really be called a zeppelin..)

Dare I ask... what would you pay for a ride on the Goodyear Blimp? (Sure seems like a bucket list item to me!) And keep in mind this is for charity!!

thanks!!!

:-)

I have been on an airship. My ex is a former Goodyear airship pilot.

I am not sure what I would pay. For charity? Depends on the charity. Otherwise, I'd pay nothing. It was not an experience in which I was terribly interested. He was in the airship business for a long time so it lost it's novelty for me after about the second date. :-)

Back in the 1970's, I rode in the gondola of the Goodyear blimp a few days before the Indy 500. We...slowly...floated around Indianapolis and I remember how actually quiet it was even when the propeller was running. The pilot told us a story about a drugged-up guy who tried to hijack on of the blimps once out west and demanded to be taken to Cuba. Apparently, he wasn't in a big hurry....
