Advice, LAX-LIH

Hi! My fiance and I are military folks so we're wedging our wedding in between Christmas and New Years, therefore looking for a good rate at a bad time to travel.

I've done well over the last few years and haven't paid for more than a flight or two out of 15 or 20. This has got me stumped, though.

AA flights are something like 140k points per person.
Hawaiian only has outbound availability at 80k per person.

These are kinda big numbers!

Does anyone have any ideas that I might have overlooked? We'd love the direct flight from LAX-LIH, but can stop in Honolulu or Seattle/Portland if necessary.

I'm ok with more credit cards, so even crazy ideas are welcome.

In advance, I thank you very much for your suggestions!!

May be too late to be able to get decent mileage rates for Christmas time flights to Hawaii. Very popular place to travel over the holiday season.

I would look for flights to HNL and then buy tickets from there to LIH.

Agreed that this is a very tought ticket to get this close to travel. Nomreal secrets here, other than to make sure you check all segments possible and consider 1 paid / 1 mileage, etc.

You could get a few new CCs, but by the time you get the bonueses, you are more likely to need to pay the higher rates.
