Stepping away from royals etc., how do ordinary celebs, or security staff such as darthlemsip do it?

Celebs often use their real name to confuse so I believe that for example Michael Caine has a passport in his real name as does Elton John and whilst their real names are public they are still not that widely known.

Obviously not an option if your professional name is your real name though.

Others I think will have approached the passport (and other specialist) agency and made a case for a passport to be issued in an alias name and had it approved for use on a limited basis.

To be honest, I'm not sure how it worked - everything on the booking was under the alias name, but I used my passport when going through security etc. I assume the company dealt directly with the airline, and there would be a flag in the system that security and gate personnel would understand

I was in the IT security side of things when I worked for them, so that's why they had me travel under an alias - knew vulnerabilities in their network etc - never actually did any transportation myself.

A-listers celebs are often on most costly fully flex 1st class (or business if no first class) reservations. These full flex fare tickets can be changed at zero cost, even as late as checkin, 2hrs before flight, so reserved in fake/alias name, traveling on real name.

I used to work for someone in the public eye and it was usual for their (and their family's) travel plans to be booked under an alias. They did however, to my knowledge at least, use their real passports.

On a slightly different note it's not uncommon for certain people to have multiple passports for different purposes, and on occasion the need for visas/entry and exit stamps etc to not be added to the passport. Members of the military are an obvious example of this, I've been to a number of different countries back when I was in the army but there is no evidence of this in my passport. I also have a friend who did some work for an off-shore firm (never knew exactly what her job was, she was always deliberately vague on details) and she apparently had a second passport purely for work related travel.

I wouldn't be surprised if the royals had diplomatic passports, if fact I'm pretty sure they would do.

And the multiple trolleys at LHR needed for said bags, and the time to get all of the bags out of the aircraft :D

Normal at my firm. I imagine normal to many here on ft. Send passport off to India for a week to get a visa and need to travel to Brussels in the mean time. Not to mention things like Syria stamps causing "questions" in certain countries.

Both my passports are full (1 page left in one, 2 in the other), need to book an appointment at Victoria, get them both sorted on the same day.

Yes, given it was a state visit.

And most of them were gifts! I've had that happen to me before, you go and visit someone and they give you a present and you think to yourself "How on earth am I going to get this home?"

Arcanum May 23, 2014 3:41 pm

I'm more surprised that they're flying commercial, particularly as it was an official visit. Surely the royals have private planes available!

IIRC they arrived in OZ from NZ on an Australian government aircraft (though I don't remember seeing much on the broadcast.)

Not sure if A-Listers use other names. There was a recent story on Entrainment Tonight (USA show) about the paparazzi at LAX and they said that some airline employees sell that info about A-Listers begin on a flight.

Do they even have passports? I can't imagine anyone asking them for their passport...

The Queen is the only Royal without a passport.

I'm sure "granny" will let them into the country.

If you are referring to Queen Elizabeth, I have read that she does NOT have a passport. SO,that "degree" of freedom might be extended to others in "the company".

With smartgate which UK passport holders are entitled to use, no one might ask them for their passport (as the machine will)
