FedEx?

FedEx operates B727's. About two years ago I recall seeing a FedEx B757 parked away from the terminal area at DCA. It stood out like a sore thumb. I haven't seen a FedEx presence there since.

FedEx parked their last 727 a couple months ago ... I think UPS still has a handful but not sure they fly anything into DCA

more than likely a privately owned jet

727 at dca?

FedEx stopped DCA service about year ago. UPS doesn't have any 727s left.
Most likely it was private 727

Private? Kalitta? I've seen a few odd aircraft in Kalitta colors over the last couple of years - they seem to pick up/fly the aircraft everyone else gives up on - 727, DC-9.

Kalitta Charter division is among the top remaining 727 fleets and
Kalitta Charters is now the sole company that has a contract with the US government to fly the remains of soldiers to their final resting places.
Headed to Arlington?

From http://www.flightradar24.com, I see a few 737s, a 717 and many 319/CRJ/DASH8/GLF4's arriving in the morning, but no 727s.

just remembered seeing what I thought was a TU-154 on approach to Dulles a couple months ago; wikipedia shows there are a couple dozen of those still in service with the Air Forces of various former Soviet republics, but IAD would be a much more likely destination for a Tupolev than DCA ...

Falcons have the same profile, tail mounted third engine. Maybe you saw one of those.

Only one comes to US on a bi-monthly basis. It's Open Sky from Russian AF. But they use Andrews or Dulles. They would never be allowed to DCA

Falcon 900 is MUCH smaller, and also has a cruciform tail (horizontal stabilizer midway up, right above the #2 engine duct) rather than a T-tail like the 727

thanks ... I really couldn't picture anything like that @DCA (besides, I don't think it's Stage III noise certified)

Private 727s aren't all that rare. Most likely that's what it was.
