Flew ORD-TPA-ORD. It was raining in TPA, turn around is something short like 40 minutes, told the FA I didn't like the weather and hopped back on. She seemed to get a kick out of it.

Segment Run

Did a segment run a couple of weeks ago when I discovered I was going to finish the year 6 segments short of DM. I did MBS-DTW-CRW on a Friday night, back Saturday around 11:00 AM out of Charleston. Took the airport shuttle to the downtown Marriott, the rest of the shuttle was the entire flight crew from my flight. They asked why I was in Charleston and when I told them the pilot teased me about being like the guy in Up In The Air. They asked me if I was going to be on their 7:00 AM flight the next morning and I told them no, I was on the 11:00 and it was an RJ. They told me they had empty seats in FC on their flight so I went to my room and called in a SDC to the 7:00 AM flight. 5:30 AM the next morning I was back on the shuttle with the same crew and sitting in FC on their flight. I got the best service I have ever had! Other folks glared at me the way the crew was pampering me, probably thought I was a non-rev friend that had been bumped up by the crew. It was awesome. I totally expected the captain to come on and make an announcement about me making DM on their flight. Glad he didn't.

Not really a mileage run....but....had a last minute trip from LHR to DXB and the only flight with availability was via Vienna with OS. Arrived on the Sunday night and departed on the Monday night with the same crew. The purser did a double take when she saw me climbing the stairs and couldn't believe someone would travel from Europe to UAE for a one day meeting. They made sure that flight home was one of the best ever...they really looked after me )

It happens every so often. Back in 2004 when AA had $175 r/ts between JFK and LGB I flew out and back the same day and the crew remembered me. I've found flight crews usually excited and friendly about it, which is more than I can say for Amtrak. I'd gone Boston Back Bay to New London, CT and was going to turn around shortly afterward (I actually had a purpose, was surprising my gf who would be on the return train) and asked the conductor if the northbound train and southbound train used the same track at the New London station. She asked me in the most contemptuous voice "what are you doing? Just riding trains all day?".

Did a GRU run with a SFO-KOA-SFO segment. Ended up with the same crew coming and going to KOA who were pissed because they were supposed to overnight in KOA but were sent back because the previous plane was 7 hours late and the crew that was supposed to take it back was over their hours. They gave me a weird look after my statement: "I went outside, didn't like it, and decided to go back."
