British Visa: Processing Time when Applying from U.S.?

I need to get a British visa for my wife as we will be transiting through London on our upcoming trip in December. i need to get a land side transit visa so she can go out of the airport for our 9 hour layover.

my question is, how long does it usually take for visa processing in the US. we live in TX so i will need to send her passport in. i can't find any info online so i wanted to see if anyone can help.
our trip is coming up on the 23rd of Dec so i am trying to decide whether to just not risk sending the passport just in case it takes too long or go for it and wait out the layover.

thanks!

Thanks ! it seems that 99% are processed within 15 business days which i think might little risky. thats also not counting biometrics and all ...hmm i gotta think this over and see but it seems the safest option is to just transit air side which will suck for 9 hours.

My wife, a Chinese Citizen, and I are going to London on December 20 th. We applied for her visa at the New York Consulate and received a notice of approval after ten business days.

One thing to remember, a biometrics procedure needs to be completed at a local USCIS Office before sending in the visa packet. The appointment can be made while doing the electronic visa application. They, the Consulate, does offer an expedited process for an extra fee.

we leave on the 23rd so trying to see if its feasible w/o expedited process.
how long did it take you to schedule a biometrics appointment? i know it will depend on local office here so from what i understand, i send in the app electronically , make a biometrics appointment, go to appointment and then send visa packet correct?

this week since its Thanksgiving i can submit the app online and schedule the biometrics ..i guess i can see when is the earliest time before deciding on proceeding or not.
