Documents Necessary for Changing Middle Name from Initial to Full Middle Name on PP

Due to bureaucratic insanity/logic, we need to change the middle name on my stepdad's passport from the initial to the full middle name. We've already done so on his Texas driver's license.

But does anyone know what corroborative evidence the passport office will need to document the name change? Can a Texas driver's license or even better, temporary paper license suffice?

I called the passport office & the *insert curse word of choice here* gave me some spiel about the person calling them himself and refusing to just give me a damn answer to an extremely simple question.

Anyways, thanks in advance, guys!

Did you try looking online?
Google search "US passport name change" takes you here (among other places)

I did! Everything takes me to "marriage name changes" and when I look for "corrections" I don't see any corroborative evidence listed on there. Could a driver's permit work? Do we just have to shell out the money and send it off to find out? ???

Has anyone had experience with this?

I haven't done it, but I imagine it would be hard to go wrong with a certified birth certificate.

Did you try calling back and saying "I need to..." instead of "My stepfather needs to..." to get an answer?

I feel your pain, RussianTexan. I recently added a MI (only) and had a heck of a time finding the proper info, e.g. name change/correction *not* due to marriage. I realize my situation is not exactly like yours but will this help?: http://travel.state.gov/passport/cor...ting_2654.html. Sounds like Form DS-82 (or DS-11 in the worst case scenario) is what you're looking for.

I don't know for certain if a temp driver's permit will pass muster, but it should work as it's legal ID. Are you in a REAL ID state ny any chance?

There is a phone number to call. I did something similar in April. My middle name was spelled Ann on my old passport, but my middle name is Anne. There was a lot of confusion, but calling and asking exactly what is needed is the way to go.
