Donating to a university?
Since you are like seatmates and this question is like one you might ask them, isn't this travel related?
What's the best way to give money to a university? Not enough for an endowed chair, but maybe the salary of one person. If just a gift, it gets lost in the pot, might be wasted on an administrator's hotel or upgrade.

It's impossible to to stop universities from wasting money, it's what most of them do best. If you pay Person A's salary, you've freed up that amount of money to be spent elsewhere. As we say, "money if fungible." What I suggest is that you give to an organization that is doing some good and doesn't already have an enormous endowment.

Bamaler, As this is not related to the core areas of FlyerTalk, and you are not yet credentialed to enter the OMNI forums, I'll close this.
However, if you will PM me with perhaps a small amount of additional information (school, department, program you wish to aid - whatever you're comfortable revealing), I may be able to offer you some informal tips and advice, as I have significant experience at a high level in working with universities as a volunteer, including in development and fundraising.
