I think $4300 is a pretty good price for a DPS-LAX RT.

Phillippines airlines have some good prices in J if you can get to KUL, SIN or MNL cheaply.
I presume "*A" means "Star Alliance" .

Forums like this is what people do instead of trying travel agents these days.

So FT is the new low-fare finder/travel agent?

You may want to wait a couple of months before trying to book this for next year. The return date is too far out for many sites such as itasoftware.com to search on.

Using itasoftware.com based on your outbound and the latest return they will give me. I'm finding on Asiana:

Outbound
PHP Code:
Denpasar Bali (DPS) to Seoul (ICN) - Mon, May 5
Asiana 764 Dep: 3:00AM Arr: 10:55AM 6h 55m Boeing 767 Business (U)

Layover in ICN

Seoul (ICN) to Los Angeles (LAX) - Mon, May 5
Asiana 202 Dep: 4:30PM Arr: 11:30AM 11h 0m Boeing 747 Business (U)
Return
PHP Code:
Los Angeles (LAX) to Seoul (ICN) - Thu, Jun 5
Asiana 201 Dep: 1:10PM Arr: 6:10PM 13h 0m Boeing 747 Business (U)

Layover in ICN Fri, Jun 6 49h 20m

Seoul (ICN) to Denpasar Bali (DPS) - Sun, Jun 8
Asiana 763 Dep: 7:30PM Arr: 1:40AM, Mon, Jun 9 7h 10m Boeing 767 Business (U)
With the following fare construction:
Fare 1: Carrier OZ ULE6MID DPS to LAX (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code U
Covers DPS-ICN (Business), ICN-LAX (Business) $1,945.00
Fare 2: Carrier OZ ULE6MID LAX to DPS (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code U
Covers LAX-ICN (Business), ICN-DPS (Business) $1,945.00
USDA APHIS Fee (XA) $5.00
US Immigration Fee (XY) $7.00
US Customs Fee (YC) $5.50
Rep. of Korea Intl. PSC, Dep. Tax and Contribution to Intl. Poverty Eradication (BP) $33.50
OZ YQ surcharge (YQ) $240.00
OZ YQ surcharge (YQ) $3.60
US International Arrival Tax (US) $17.20
US International Departure Tax (US) $17.20
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $2.50
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $4.50

Subtotal per passenger $4,226.00
Number of passengers x1

Total airfare & taxes $4,226.00

This is presuming the fare is being purchased from DPS in USD.

Yeah, usually max 10 months in advance, 9 for some carriers.

Hey, you've got several pieces of superb advice there!

As a regular Perth visitor who has many friends and colleagues in Perth who travel a lot, I can tell you that the strategy above - get Air Asia X or something cheap to a SE Asian hub - is exactly what they and I do when looking for a long-haul J class fare.

Also, your original post was not very clear - it could be taken to mean you want a fare starting in Denpasar, I interpret it as you starting from PER.

It's worth what you're paying for it.

FT is not a travel agency.

Yes.

And as a sideline it helps people go from zero miles to RTW awards in F next Thursday.
