Upper deck Y or Y+?

Any airlines offer economy or economy plus on the top level? Either 747 or A800.

Related..I am going to India this fall..is there some rule that the A380 can't fly to India? Or is that just Delhi? I'd like to experience the A380...and also the upper deck.

Thanks

IIRC Qantas has Y+ on the upper deck of their A380, although I really don't think that will apply to you since your profile says that you're based in DCA.

The new BA A380 has Y+ on the upper deck as well, but their A380 only flies the LHR - LAX and LHR - HKG routes per their website. If you really wanted to try it out, you could fly World Traveler Plus (BA's version of Y+) from LAX - LHR and then catch a flight LHR - India. The LAX - LHR BA A380 flights start October 15th.

Upper deck Y or Y+?

Virgin Atlantic have some of their 747's configured with Y and Y+, Y (and J), and entirely Y+ on the upper deck.

Check out seatguru for details...

EVA has upper deck Y which is better in terms of space and storage.

The runway, taxiways, and gate areas need to be physically suitable for the A380. And you have to find an airline who wants to deploy their limited A380 fleet to DEL (or maybe BOM). Not sure if those conditions are all met, but I don't think there is any reason the Indian aviation authorities wouldn't want A380's if they have an airport prepared to handle them.

If you want to fly a newer bird to India, consider the 787. My first Dreamliner flight was DEL-NRT on JL. That's probably a better experience in the Y cabin than a 380.

(Only caveat: seat pitch on JL is tight. If you're tall, it might not be a better experience... )

EDITED: The other thread suggests that the Indian aviation authority hasn't or hadn't certified the A380. So who knows... I think everyone suggesting you find your A380 segment from the U.S. to Asia or Europe is probably on the right track.

Actually long-haul ones had it too. But JAL no longer operates 747s

Air Pacific (now air Fiji) used to operate economy on the upper deck. On a flight we were on about 7 years from LAX there were only about 70 of us on the flight and I think they closed off the upstairs

This is very easy to find out yourself.. Of the A380 operators:

AF has Y+ and Y on the upper deck.
CZ has Y on the upper deck.
MH has Y on the upper deck.
QF has Y+ and Y on the upper deck (Y+ only on the first version).
SQ has Y on the upper deck on one version.
TG has Y on the upper deck.

BA will have Y+ and Y on the upper deck.

However it may be reserved for status passengers.
