Question What is the range of the B777-200?

I frequently fly ORD-PVG on AA 777-200.

I recently noticed an interesting fact:
according to flightaware, the distance flown for AA288 is around 11889km. However, if you look at Boeing's own website http://www.boeing.com/boeing/commerc...00product.page

B777-200's maximum range is only 9700km.

How could this be possible??
Anyone know?

According to its website, AA does not operate any B777-200's; it operates B777-200ER's:

OK. Because on flightaware.com, it says the aircraft type is 777-200.
"Aircraft Boeing 777-200 (twin-jet) (H/B772/Q photos)"

Thanks though.

AA operates the 777-200ER.

According to wikipedia, there were 88 orders for the 777-200 and 420 for the 777-200 ER.

Only a small handful of airlines ordered and operated these early low-thrust 777s (primarily to replace early 747s, L-1011s and DC-10s). PM UA was the only U.S. one.

Moderator note.

Although the OP had titled this thread one which suggested it was focused on AA, the topic seems apt to discuss the range of the B777 aircraft, including its different models. Accordingly, I retitled the thread to reflect this.

As the last post indicates, other carriers use this aircraft. At least for the near term, we'll keep this in TravelBuzz. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
