I've got two pairs of Eccos and use them as my main shoes when traveling for business. They work fine with business-casual clothing and are just dressy enough to wear with a jacket and tie. They're comfortable enough for walking around town all the day though I wouldn't wear them trail hiking.

What I pack
My upcoming trip to London is part vacation and attending a convention I will pack dress shoes and loafers. I will wear my Clark desert boots on the plane. Doubt seriously I will need anything else but if the need arises I will buy it.
|
Packed my sandals for the vacation we are currently on. My wife packed Sandals, and some dress shoes.
|
I never pack shoes, just wear what's on my feet. Unless I'm going to a beach, in which case I pack sandals. Or if on business, I'd bring dress shoes. Pretty simple.
|
ECCO Biom to walk and do light workout in that I wear on the plane. I also bring a pair of ECCO driving moccasins in black that packs very flat in the carry-on.
|
If you're a chic or check baggage, please don't respond....not interested. When I'm going hand luggage only, I only take the shoes I'm wearing. If checking bags, take 1 pr black "office" shoes, 1 pr casual shoes and 1 pr trainers for gym. |
I pack a pair of Ecco loafers and a pair of gym shoes. I wear my flip flops most of the time, the joys of being your own boss!

Oi, I am very chic and often check baggage.
I'm chic, chick, and check. There is an entire thread on the subject although the entire concept of buying special shoes to come to Yurop has always left me bemused. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/women...oes-boots.html |
Having size 44/10.5 feet, shoes can take up a lot of space, so I've had to choose wisely.
I wear a pair of Patagonia casual hemp shoes on the plane and pack: - Tod's leather shoes (if on biz trip) - Vibram Fivefingers Bikilas for the gym which are compressible and light If there's a chance to trail run I skip the Vibrams and bring the Inov-8 Roclite (also minimalist and no thick soles) instead. |
Johnson & Murphy loafers. Same as I wear every day. They're very comfortable. Plus a black formal oxford if neccessary. All my shoes are treed when they aren't being worn and I carry shoe trees even during travel. I also pack an extra pair for the shoes on my feet so I don't have an odd pair left open during the night.

I'm used to Fairmont so much, I really should bring a pair of sneakers when we travel so I can work out in the fitness gym. I didn't really bring a set of work out clothes as well. Perhaps, I'll hit a place up for shorts and sneakers on this trip. Got another 19 nights out of 21 to go.

Depends on the trip. If it's a casual trip or I'll be doing a lot of walking, I like a pair of sneakers (right now a pair of Vans). For a less casual trip, I have a pair of tan Oxfords that are comfortable yet classy. Occasionally I'll wear a pair of black dress shoes but they aren't much fun to walk a lot in.

I looked for the dress shoe that fit so well from the start that I could walk all day in it comfortably. For exercise, I will sometimes walk an hour from my meeting back to the hotel. I know a lot of people swear by ECCOs, but every foot is different. For me, it is Church's, which, though expensive, also last 10-15 years of regular wear is my experience. (Note: it is usually cheaper to buy them in Europe than in New York.) On the plane, I wear loafers. Sometimes I pack a pair of very lightweight canvas sneakers for walking and playing tourist when I land.

Shoes: The bane of my packing...
Traveling for business isn't too bad as my company has a somewhat relaxed dress code. So I'll wear my Eccos and stuff my running shoes in the bag for running along with sandals if I'm heading to SoCal Vacationing can get more difficult. I wear size 47/14 so my shoes are not small. We also tend to be very active and I have yet to find a shoe that can do hiking and running well for me. At times I have ended up with wearing my Eccos and packing a pair of running shoes (Brooks), hiking shoes (Merrill) and sandals (Keen). Thats a lot of luggage real estate spent on shoes.
