Differential fare construction

I tried to combine some flights without success. The fare rules mentioned something about "category 23, no differential fare construction."

What's "differential fare construction?"

I believe it is used for mixed fare class bookings, if you have one segment in J and one segment in F for example, to calculate the extra cost to be added (fare difference).
