Lost ID : how to get temp ID for return flight?
A friend from seattle visiting in-town (Dallas,TX) got their wallet stolen and now has no ID to return home. They didn't photocopy their passport or drivers license and emailed it to themselves. What is another alternative to attaining some kind of ID(s) to be able get on to their return flight?
I've read you can file a police report and use that to board the plane or an insurance card to be reprinted from the online website. Has anyone else had any experiences where this has worked?
thanks in advance.

you don't need an ID to fly domestic
You can fly domestic without an ID. Just plan on arriving at the airport a few minutes early and be prepared to answer a few more screening questions at the TSA checkpoint. They can use alternative means to establish identity. From the TSA's own website: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/acceptable-ids
I have a friend who had everything stolen and had no documentation whatsoever. He had to write his name and address on a paper, and then was asked questions about where he lives, what type of house it was, etc, and was through security with only a few minutes extra hassle.

Agree, your friend does not need an ID. Just be prepared for additional questioning and screening (e.g., they may check his bags, conduct a pat down, etc.), so allow for extra time on the front end.

Not sure when your friend is flying home but you may be able to have the DMV overnight a new ID. I had to do this a couple of years ago when I had my wallet stolen on vacation.

If you show up for a flight without ID, the TSA will run a credit check on you and quiz you on the report's information to verify your identity. You may also receive a quick pat-down and bag search.
You'll be fine... just plan on allowing an extra half hour.
