Who was wrong here?

I am staying in the hostels and me and 2 dudes who i talked to for a few days and this other german dude who i met today and 2 girls went out. At some point they wanted to get a taxi somewhere . I run out of money so i was basically blamed for going out with no money. The german guy don't me not to get on the taxi even though it is the same total price anyway. So now am i wrong for thinking this guy was a dick? If i had money and he didn't i would cover him as i have covered other people in the past.

Alcohol+FT posting=not good

;)

howtofreetravel Apr 2, 2013 12:13 am

Must be pretty sad because i barely drunk anything due to the fact that i run out of money

Doc Savage Apr 2, 2013 12:15 am

Dude, how are you going to get home?

NotDuncan Apr 2, 2013 12:15 am

Erm, wherever you are, and wherever you're from....You thought another dude was a d!ck because you couldn't pay for your share of cab fare?

Is that really the question you're asking? JC, above post, has the best answer you'll receive in this thread.

explorer13 Apr 2, 2013 12:17 am

freeloading is freeloading no matter how you dress it up or justify

howtofreetravel Apr 2, 2013 12:18 am

I walked home(1 min walk) haha maybe it would have been possible to walk to the next bar (40 mins) . My share was 2 bucks !! I am getting a bank transfer so i gotta wait till Wednesday .

Dude, if you ain't got 2 bucks, you're gonna be damn hungry by Wednesday.

Unless you steal stuff from the hostel fridge!!!

howtofreetravel Apr 2, 2013 12:23 am

Well dude i am flying first class Tuesday(got the upgrade) so i am good food wise. Then i will be at my university so i got my own fridge and all. What i am trying to point out is i am not broke overall , I am just broke today and Tuesday.
I am actually in Canada so i got exactly enough money for the bus to the airport and the bus to take me to my dorm. This hostel actually has free breakfast too BTW and ive been to some that had free dinner before.

imslippy Apr 2, 2013 12:24 am

Who was wrong here?

if the walk home was like 30min I'd say that guy was being an ...
but it was only a minute walk so oh well.

Yep. That's why you are staying in a hostel with no money.

Just to explain it a bit better we were gonna go to the next bar which is like 30 mins away walking. So i went back to the hostel instead. Doc savage i had money before ... I just mis budgeted .

You, sir, are a party animal.

TravelerMSY Apr 2, 2013 1:14 am

Funny. But weird to expect people you just met to cover your cab money. Maybe they didn't want you to go with them anyway.

howtofreetravel Apr 2, 2013 1:22 am

No need to be negative i was a cock block to the dudes or in a way they were for me. I don't focus my life on alcohol as some other people might.

airmotive Apr 2, 2013 4:28 am

Mr. Prime Minister...is that you?

Srsly, Steve...is that u dude? You owe me five bucks.

To me, this is similar to it being illegal in Germany and Austria to run out of fuel on an Autobahn. It would be your fault and you would have to pay a fine.

AlanInDC Apr 2, 2013 4:53 am

To answer the question posed: I was wrong... for spending the time to read this thread. Two minutes of my time that I'll never retrieve.

nachosdelux Apr 2, 2013 5:26 am

IBTL.

Also, running out of money is no way to impress the ladies....

Jenbel Apr 2, 2013 5:35 am

To answer the question. You were. Even if the cab fare was the same amount in total with or without you, it's still shared between the passengers in the cab.

For business, it's different since you can expense it but socially, unless you've let them know in advance and they've okayed it, then you should expect to split the bill.

SMFlagg Apr 2, 2013 6:42 am

Always plan to split when going out with friends. That is even more clear when going out with people who you hardly know. And you certainly run a tight budget if the only cash you have remaining is the exact change required for the two buses. That's impressive.

Short answer, no, this guy who you just met was in the clear. I certainly wouldn't want someone who I just met freeloading off of me.

BOShappyflyer Apr 2, 2013 6:59 am

Who was wrong here?

And if you have no money for the cab, how are you going to pay for your tab at the next bar?

Just saying. ;)

This.

OP, you have three choices:

1. don't go out if you can't afford the whole night (and your companions won't spot you a few bucks)
2. stop being poor
3. only use taxis that accepts FF miles

Did you get any from the 2 chicks?

This. I think I deserve $5 bucks for just making it this far.

tampatravel Apr 2, 2013 11:59 am

whew...

Seriously man. I hope they didn't do a bus fare hike April 1st or you're screwed. Who calls it that close anyways?

If you don't have $$$, don't go out!

Laylla Apr 2, 2013 12:19 pm

Are you my sister?

Are you my sister?

Because she expects me to cover her all the time, because I am married and have 2 incomes and she can't hold a relationship together and is single.

Example:
Sister: Let's get mom present X for christmas and split the cost.
Me: OK
Sister: I think you should pay 2/3 and I should pay 1/3.

She has been coming to my house for the last few years for her "vacation" and expecting me to pay for everything because she is a guest in my house.

I don't invite her any more.

heraclitus Apr 2, 2013 12:20 pm

You guys are being a bit hard on the OP. Sounds like a young guy having a good time. I'm surprised that the other dude would get angry about the OP's inability to chip in a few bucks toward cab fare. I mean, if I were having a good time on vacation with some hostel buddies, I'd just give the cabbie a ten or whatever and carry on, instead of picking a fight over the three bucks that someone owed me.

Here's the thing, though: they didn't know him and didn't know if it was going to be a case of them covering his cab fare, them getting badgered into buying Moneyless Guy drinks at the bar, them covering his cab fare back, and so on. In fact, "oops, I ran out of money" is a classic freeloading technique, along the lines of "oops, I forgot my wallet, can you pay for lunch?" I'm not saying that's what the OP was doing, but really, these other folks had no way of knowing that.

IFlyHarder Apr 2, 2013 1:54 pm

The last English teacher who gave the OP a passing grade is at fault.

This is when he starts snaking drinks left on the table when people go out on the dance floor.

pinniped Apr 2, 2013 2:12 pm

Awesome = this thread.

Can't get a cab
Can't get any mo' beer
I'm half in the bag
I think I'll post....here!!

Prepare for this to get merged into OMNI's "Bugger..." thread.

GetSetJetSet Apr 2, 2013 2:20 pm

The guy is a dick. It's cab fare. If you've been hanging out for a few days and you said you'd pay him back later, there's no need for him to be a jerk. As someone suggested, they just may have no wanted to have you around and were using this as an excuse to be rid of you.

aceofangel Apr 2, 2013 2:40 pm

Errr never did the OP say he will pay them back later. Considering that he has a flight on Tuesday and he is getting money on Wednesday I don't think he was planning on paying back anything.

Anyway OP is in the wrong here. If it was a cab ride home it would be one thing. However this was a cab right to go somewhere for a night out. Most people can be generous but hate to be taken advantage of.

JerryFF Apr 2, 2013 2:45 pm

Am I wrong or was this thread started on April 1? :D

Good thought, but I'm assuming it was the wee hours in the morning of April 2nd in Europe.

Where else would the idea of hostels be common? Australia? If that's the case, then the OP was f-ed up out of his skull at 2 or 3PM(?), which makes this thread at least 50% more awesome than I thought it was.

Tried to daydrink but ran out of money at lunch? That's truly awesome.

uszkanni Apr 2, 2013 4:36 pm

I assume his "buddies" just figured he'd be mooching off them the whole night. I'd have dropped his drunk *ss too.

And from the first post, my count is 3 guys and 2 girls - NOT INCLUDING OP. I'd have dumped the two other guys too! :D
