Cities, states and the private sector have all delta with cutbacks over the last 6 years. the federal government has not.

Businesses are still operating and one can still get a human to answer when calling 911 so it is possible to live with less money.

What we will see is antics that affect the common man the most. Fewer front line TSA and airport slowdowns but the senior DHS officials won't give up their private jets to save money.

Also, long threads on a'net.

Of course it isn't DL specific... but this thread is. I don't really care what other airlines do about this. I think if this actually happens, there should be a thread here to talk specifics about DL's plan.

Do you think Delta will do something different than the other airlines?

It all depends how/ where the cuts happen. It is suppose to be small airports with little or no commercial traffic. It could be a couple of small airports in the southeast that only DL flies into.

If some of these govt agencies cut back on there travel budgets and lighten the load factors it might improve my upgrade chances for the few flights I have scheduled for March/April. :D

MPR had a story on the local cuts recently, MSP is unaffected, DLH and RST lose overnight tower staffing and STC loses all staffing. Assuming this pattern holds nationwide, I would not want to be depending on the last bank of Delta Connection flights out of the hubs until I know what the Connection carriers' policy is on landing at an unstaffed field.

Yawn.

Not concerned. It's a whole lot of saber rattling.

So if the TSOs get a furlough day off each pay period, will it affect their demeanor? Which way?

AnitaBryant63 Feb 24, 2013 6:56 pm

I've got a flight to Japan March 8th. I'm worried.

Could not care less. I'd like to see them all in the unemployment line. That would improve my (and I suspect many other passengers') demeanor immensely.

For all the squealing going on, you'd think the pigs were about to be slaughtered... but really it's just a whole lot of noise over them not even liking the idea of a diet. And by diet, I mean not having a Twinkie at the end of a dinner consisting of 6 Super Size Big Mac meals.

Code:

Federal Government Expenditures
2003                        $2,157bn
2004                        $2,293bn
2005                        $2,472bn
2006                        $2,660bn
2007                        $2,730bn
2008                        $2,900bn
2009                        $3,518bn
2010                        $3,721bn
2011                        $3,630bn
2012                        $3,796bn

2013 (no cuts)                $3,803bn
2013 (sequester)        $3,718bn

And March 1 is going to be the end of the world? Come on... life will go on as normal. Lines won't be longer unless the TSOs drag their feet.

Sprezzatura Feb 25, 2013 12:40 am

I currently have 8 flights in March so I sincerely hope this turns out to be a lot of sound and fury. Otherwise my March is going to really suck.
