Around The World Ideas

My wife and I would like to take a Round the World trip in the upcoming 6 months. I am hoping that the combined wisdom of the travelers on this website could help us out. If you have ideas (or first hand experience) about the following, please share:

1) City/Location
2) How to get there -- we want to travel in First/Business and try out as many different airline products as possible.
3) Where to stay once we get there

We will start from the NYC/Philly/DC area depending on flight availability.

Here is a sample travel plan that I was thinking of:

1) Paris, travel US air Envoy direct from PHL to CDG (Lie flat seats). Stay at George V.
2) Paris, travel South African Airways to Capetown. Stay at Ellerman House
3) Capetown to New Delhi via Emirates First Class. Stay at The Leela Palace.
4) New Delhi to BKK.
5) BKK to PPT
6) PPT to LAS
7) LAS to PHL

We definitely want to go to Paris, CapeTown, and Delhi. The rest is completely open. Any advice on how to get there, and where to stay would be great. We'd like to maximize the trips on airlines that are unique -- for example Lufthansa first class via Frankfurt or Emirates, etc.

Thank you very much.

Your question is a bit too general to get much useful feedback here. If price is no object, then your itinerary sounds great; if price is a factor, then you will probably save money by using one of the airline-specific or alliance-specific round-the-world fare products.

I agree that experiencing LH first-class departing from FRA, where you can utilize the first-class terminal, or MUC, where the first-class lounge is pretty much the same; and EK's first-class suites on the B777 or especially the A380, departing from DXB, are products worth trying. As is Singapore Airlines first class. SQ doesn't fly to PPT, but you could take a combination of them and Air New Zealand, which gets good reveiws in biz, PPT-AKL-SIN then connect to SQ's SIN-LAX all business-class A340-500 before they eliminate that flight around October.

Or Korean Air flies direct to LAS, though their first is not amazing.

thank you. this is exactly what I had in mind.

Any other thoughts on which airlines/airplane/city combinations we should focus on?
