Holiday Prices

I was wondering why would it cost a lot to leave say on December 19th and return December 27th.

For instance SJC-ABQ is $330
SFO-JFK is $508

I thought the most expensive would be the weekend before the holiday and usually right after New Years etc. Most people take the two weeks except some companies would take Christmas and then a few days at New Years.

Is the increased prices due to the holidays. Does it mean the airplanes are full? You would think they would continue sales as its October and they want to fill up seats.

Thanks

People with shorter amounts of vacation time get really creative in maximizing their use. By leaving on the 19th (your example) and returning on the 27th they would only need to use 5 days of vacation time (assuming they also got the 24th as a vacation day). Saving the rest of the precious days for a summer trip or ??

The only really low traffic/low cost days are right on the holidays. I've booked trips flying on Dec 24/25 and returning Dec 31/Jan 1 for better prices. Sometimes you can see these lower rates ahead of time, but sometimes they only appear as last minute "sales".

Not in the US, where most people only get two weeks of vacation per year, period. They might get two or three days total around the holidays.

Because of this, flying is expensive in the whole 15 December - 3 January timeframe. Yes,the flights will all be full. No, there is almost no chance of lower prices as time passes.
